Craig Newick of Newick Architects
“I met Craig Newick at the opening event for the Philip Johnson Modern House that I did. Later we met over coffee to get to know about each other ‘s business a bit more. When he showed me his portfolio I fell in love with several smaller scaled modern houses he did in New Haven County. The play of light against the geometric forms inside of these houses was wonderful; forming a constant source of interest for the eyes, yet somehow speaking of serenity at the same time, much like the modern masters who have influenced his work. Living in one of Craig’s houses would be like living in a piece of sculpture. What’s refreshing is his willingness and ability to do this for smaller scale houses, which is once again a direction that housing is moving in.” –Victoria Lyon
Craig Newick brings a wide variety of experiences to any design project. He has worked in the offices of some of the country’s most well known architects where he has worked on practically every building type at every scale. He is as adept at addressing the intricacies of the design of a door handle where every decision and every millimeter counts as he is in planning large institutional buildings with complex programs which require multi-disciplinary design teams to execute.
The Firestone Pavilion has just won a 2010 AIA Connecticut Design Award. The design of the Offices of Towers Golde, international known landscape architects won the Business Architecture Award 2010. The Elton Studio won the Alice Washburn Prize from Connecticut Magazine in 2009. In 1996, Newick and his frequent collaborator, Linda Lindroth, were selected by the Architecture League of New York for their prestigious Emerging Voices lecture series. To date, Newick Architects’ work has been recognized by over thirty awards, grants and honors. The work has been exhibited and published extensively including this past September at the Dutch Cultural Ministry in Amersfoort, Holland.
